About This Item
New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, 1988. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG+/VG+. Yale Publications in the History of Art, 38. 1st edition (number line]. Small 4to, olive green cloth, 337 pages, bibliographical notes, index, b/w illustrations throughout, 10 color plates. Condition is VERY GOOD book / VERY GOOD jacket: slight sunning to board edges, faint spotting to page edges, several small pencil notations in margins and the past few blank pages are filled with helpful penciled notes - perhaps the notes of a book reviewer. John Claudius Loudon (1783-1843), designer of the first public park and inventor of the means to construct curvilinear glasshouses, was also the first eminent landscape architect to address the problems of the modern city - this book is the first comprehensive study of Loudon's social, political, environmental and artistic ideals.
