About This Item

London, Anthony Treherne & Co. Ltd, 3 Agar St., Charing Cross, (1903).. Printed by Edmund Evans at the Racquet Court Press (1903), 16mo, 74 x 74 mm, 3 x 3 inches, buff cloth with black and blue illustration of 2 kittens, lettered red on upper cover, lettered black on spine, top edges blue, 87 stiff card pages printed 1 side only, plus 2 pages of adverts, our title No. 2 in list of 4. 20 delightful full page coloured illustrations, all cats and kittens, most dressed, each facing rhyming couplet. Upper cover slightly rubbed and faintly stained, small pale stain to lower cover, 2 minute holes in lower hinge, colour on top edges rather worn, remains of tiny label on front pastedown, very slight sign of old gluing to fold of front endpapers, crack to joint between title page and following leaf, binding sound and firm, 1 or 2 tiny pale marks to a few margins, tiny piece of gummed paper on lower corner of rear pastedown (for no obvious reason - see image). A near very good copy of a scarce Wain title. Copies of this title turn up with 1904 printed on the title page and top edges blue, these also have the imprint of the New York printer H. B. Claflin Co. Others undated like ours sometimes have Treherne's street address as above, others do not. The British Library and the National Library of Scotland hold undated copies with accession dates of 1903. Dale, No. 134 dated 1904; Necker, No.2091 (1903).
