Fore text block edges starting to fox; all edges just starting to tan. Endpapers starting to fox and tan. Otherwise, internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Volume has two dust jackets. Original dust just has light chipping to top edges, not price clipped. Second 'Subscriber Book Service Edition' dust jacket is foxed, and sun faded. The literary portraits of five eighteenth-century French women being an actress, a slave girl, an ex nun, a maid and a companion none of them too well known, but each remarkable in their own way.
