About This Item
1863. DANIEL, George. Love's Last Labour Not Lost. vi, 294, [2] pp. 8vo., 162 x 105 mm, bound in full contemporary green crushed morocco, a.e.g. London: Basil Montagu Pickering, 1863. First Edition. One of 250 copies. A Unique Copy, being from the author's own renowned library, and extra-illustrated by him with fifteen portraits and plates. Daniel was a composer of verses and pieces for the theatre, as well as a ubiquitous member of British literary society and a famous collector of Elizabethan books and theatrical curiosities. Interestingly, Daniel's proclivity for arranging volumes of cuttings is also represented at the British Museum, which holds three volumes of scrap-books accompanied by his manuscript notes. The present volume, comprising 23 miscellaneous memoirs, essays and poems, contains portraits of the author, Charles Lamb, Alexander Pope, Colley Cibber, Thomas Moore, Tom D'Urfay and others. Also included are views of Strawberry Hill, the New and Old Churches and Paddington, Cowper's study and more. Joint rubbed, front cover stained, still a nice copy.
