Decorative card wraps with title label to front cover and partial title label to spine. Spine creased and slightly worn to ends. Good solid binding, very clean text throughout. Inscribed and signed by the author to front free endpaper: 'To Mr. Geoffrey Dunlop, with an agreeable remembrance of 'Leonce and Lena' in Manchester, and very kind regards, Gordon Bottomley, 7th April 1933.' Dunlop had previously published a new translation of 'Leonce and Lena' in his 1927 book 'The Plays of Georg Buchner'. Overall condition is Very Good. New York: Macmillan, 1932. Book. Near Fine. Cloth. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Dark brown cloth, paper title label on upper back strip. Matching dates but no month of publication provided, thus perhaps a 1st edition though not conforming to Macmillan's standard designation (with the additonal note that there appears to be no evidence suggesting that this title went into a 2nd ptg. in its year of 1st publication). Both panels show cloth spotting/flecking toward and along fore-edge, apparently reacting to the plain brown paper wrapper. Slightly toned but immaculate interior. Dust jacket (decorated, with pastedown title labels on front and spine panels) shows chipped spine extremities with minor loss at same, 1" closed tear at bottom rear joint, chipped/toned spine label; clipped front flap appears original to issue. Scarce. Still quite presentable, reading worse than it presents..

Small book label of Herbert Boyce Satcher, very good plus in floral patterned self-wrappers with slight soiling and edgewear to the paper spine label. Inscribed by the author: "To Oliver Elton and Mrs. Elton, with Gordon Bottomley's great regard. Silverdale, Comforth. 6th October 1933." Elton was a noted literary scholar and he wrote an important reference, *Survey of English Literature: 1830-1880* (London: Edward Arnold, 1920).
