About This Item

Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1957. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Edinburgh, Oliver and Boyd, 1957. Octavo, iv, 52 pages plus a frontispiece portrait. Cloth very slightly rubbed; one corner a trifle bumped; small surface tears to the front pastedown (possibly due to a tiny surfeit of glue in the production process); an excellent copy. Presentation copy. To Trevor Alfred Ridley ('Jim') Dinning (1919-2003), warmly inscribed, 'In appreciation of Trevor Dinning's mastery in the field of Brain & Spinal Cord Surgery'; dated (2 December 1966) and signed by the author (and amending one of his qualifications from FRFPS to FRCS). Also with the ownership chop and stamp of Dinning on the front free endpaper. Dinning was 'chief architect of neurosurgical services in South Australia and the creator of a very successful research foundation' on the front flyleaf. Duguid's memoir of Macewen, the former Regius Professor of Surgery at Glasgow University by one of his students (the well-known 'Doctor among the Aborigines').
