Original publisher's gilt-stamped burgundy cloth. Rubbed and bumped, spine sunned. Head of text-block damp-stained, ink library stamp to verso of title page. The first edition of pioneering physiologist Etienne-Jules Marey's (1830-1904) influential treatise on the biomechanics of locomotion. The revolutionary techniques he employed in his studies, both mechanical and photographic, led to unforeseen practical implications in the fields of aviation and biophysics, and upon the advent of cinematography. .
