Scattered moderate foxing throughout; all 17 b/w plates are present. A history of an incredible woman. Frontis with original tissue guard in place (of Madame Tallien). Dark red cloth has frayed at crown and foot with gently worn corners. A fabulous previous owner 'period' bookplate on blank front paste-down( end-paper). Appendices and Index at rear. 348 pages. Hard to find in early edition. Protected in a mylar slip.
