About This Item

New York: Jonathan Cape/Harrison Smith, 1930. Lynd Ward (1905-1985) was a socially-aware and visionary American artist/illustrator who created a unique body of work. This is the second of his six novels that have no words - only his beautiful woodcuts tell the dramatic story. His work has been republished by the Library of America, which notes "Madman’s Drum (is) a multigenerational saga worthy of Faulkner, (which) traces the legacy of violence haunting a family whose stock in trade is human souls. This is a very Good copy of the First American Edition. "The text," consisting of 116 woodcut images, is clean, Pictorial cover with a paper label on the spine. The margins and the paper label on the spine are rubbed. With a facsimile dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. A solid, if not pristine, copy of this high spot in Twentieth Century American literature (and art).. First American Edition.. Pictorial Cover. Very Good/Fine. Illus. by Lynd Ward. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
