Sydney, NSW : Cornstalk Publishing Company , 1927. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. Octavo (standard book size). Binding is tight, cover and spine fully intact but the paper is split on back gutter , Some pages are a little apart revealing the thread. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting Pages have foxed spots, Edges browned Cover is worn and has edge wear and bumped corners. Spine is faded and small section of the cloth is split on back fold. Some marks on cover The book has two plates, the frontispiece and a plate facing page 60 (as found).
The book was Idriess' first novel and was semi-autobiographical, although he invented the love interest at the insistence of the publisher.
Madman's Island was published in 1927
This fictional version - written with a ‘love interest’ - was a failure, selling only 300 copies and was remaindered (Ion . There were no other printings of this version (see 1938 for the non-fiction version).
Publishing - Cornstalk Company, Sydney published 1927. Probably less than 2000 were printed.
