B/w illustrations plus several full-page color illustrations. 76, [1] pp. 10.75 x 7.75 inches. Magic Maize was a recipient of the Newbery Honor in 1954. Set in contemporary Guatemala, the story tells of the adventures of Fabian, a boy from a traditional Mayan family. Mary Buff (1890-1970) and Conrad Buff (1886-1975) were a married couple who co-created children's illustrated books. They resided in southern California and between 1937 and 1968 they published fourteen books.
