Description:
London: Faber and Faber Limited,, 1934. First edition, first impression, of this collection of eight essays on literary criticism, named after the poet's imperative that the modernist artist must "make it new" by breaking "with the formal and contextual standards of their contemporaries in making works fundamentally individual [while considering] the aesthetics of the past in the context of the present moment" (Bledsoe). Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge purple, others untrimmed. With dust jacket. Rubbing to ends and corners, bottom edge slightly knocked, contents clean. A very good copy indeed in unclipped dust jacket, spine and upper extremities toned, couple of small abrasions to spine with thin hole near head, a little wear to fold ends, very good overall. Gallup A36.
