1. First edition. On title page, ""London MACMILLAN AND CO. and New York 1887"";. Three-quarter green leather with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers. Raised bands and elaborate decorative gilt designs and letters on spine. Tissue guarded frontis + 47 listed illustrations by R.R. Holmes. Top edge gilt. Very Good+ condition. Possibly never used. Very tightly bound, original ribbon marker still centered in book, although now free. Three corner end tips rubbed thru. Minor rubbing to spine edges showing slight color loss. Foredge and bottom edge lightly tanned. Pages clean, crisp, bright and tight. Art & History.
