About This Item

Great Britain: Basil Blackwall. Trade Paperback. Ticks in margin in pencil to some pages. Remainder mark to edge. Crease to front cover. This new textbook surveys the development of British politics in Parliament, in the parties and amongst the elctorate. Avoiding a merely facual and chronological account, the author concentrates on probles of interpretation and analysis raised by recent work in the field. He provides a critical guide for the student to the growing and often overwhelming body of specialist literature. Each chapter is supported by a full descriptive bibliography and guide to further reading. Throughout, the book examines political change at three distinct levels: Parliament, the electorate and, between these, party activists and organizers. In so doing, it avoids the narrow high politics perspective of some other accounts. The author shows how politics gradually came to revolve less around the moral-politicals issues of the Victorian era and more around the economic and social role of the state. He considers the fate of the three main parties throuhgout the period and concludes with a discussion of the emergence of a two-party system by the time of the Second World War. 337 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . Good. Soft cover. 1st Trade Paperback. 1982.
