Sampson Low, Marston and Company Limited, London / J C Juta & Co, South Africa, 1898. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 248 pages (complete). An elderly, resolute copy of this sympathetic view - even though Rae was English - of the campaign against the stoic Malaboch and his peoples; a book perhaps read with more interest now than at the time. The red boards are worn, scuffed, marked all about from handling, storage. The binding has been repaired. The spine is much worn and rubbed. It is secure. The boards are steady and sturdy. The contents have evidence of contented use throughout. The pages are a little tanned about the edges from paper quality. The title page has a previous retailer's stamps. Some pages (especially to the fore) have age-related or handling marks. The pages are, by far, clean, clear, confident, sound, certain, still keen. fk.
