About This Item

New York, NY: Pocket Books. Very Good+. 1992. First Edition; First Printing. Paperback. Very Good+ in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: just a hint of wear to the extremities; a couple of barely discernible creases to the backstrip; the expected light tanning to the text pages due to aging; the binding square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the panels. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing the mildest wear and minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Bright and clean. Very close to "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (6.75 x 4.25 x 0.85 inches) . Language: English. Weight: 5.4 ounces. Mass Market Paperback. A collection of mystery tales presents the work of such masters of the genre as Charlotte MacLeod, Barbara Paul, Charlotte and Aaron Elkins, and Audrey Peterson, Elizabeth Peters, D. R. Meredith, Diane Mott Davidson, Valerie Frankel, L. B. Greenwood, Janet LaPierre, Joan Hess, Sharyn McCrumb, and P. M. Carlson. Every one of these mysteries is very good, which is sometimes unusual in an anthology. There's not a clunker in the bunch. Barbara Louise Mertz (1927 – 2013) was an American author who wrote under her own name as well as under the pseudonyms Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels. In 1952, she received a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. She was best known for her mystery and suspense novels, including the Amelia Peabody book series. Mertz received a number of award wins and nominations from the mystery community. Her first recognition came when Trojan Gold was nominated for the 1988 Anthony Award in the "Best Novel" category; the following year, Naked Once More won the 1989 Agatha Award in the same category. Following this Mertz earned a series of Agatha Award "Best Novel" nominations. Mertz was also the recipient of a number of grandmaster and lifetime achievement awards, including being named Grandmaster at the Anthony Awards in 1986 and Grandmaster by the Mystery Writers of America in 1998; in 2003, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Malice Domestic Convention. In 2012 she was honored with the first Amelia Peabody Award at the Malice Domestic Convention; the award was named after the leading character in her long-running series. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; xi, 275 pages. pages .
