Philadelphia: Charles DeSilver, 1860. Boards. Very Good. xii, 13-528, [12-ads] pages. 8vo. Leather over cloth boards. Blindstamped decoration in front and rear boards. Gilt titles on spine. A sound working copy. Boards. A useful view into the teaching methods of the day. Contains 783 individual sections, many no more than a paragraph, with generally clear and concise descriptions of the idea, chemical, or experiment. Many woodcuts in the text. The sixth edition (copyright notes 1856). As an aside, these are the sorts of "hands-on" science texts I enjoy - anyone with an interest in the subject can obtain inexpensively (for the most part) apparatus that would have been used at the time, and duplicate what school children before the civil war experienced. Great fun!
