Dijon, 1760. Contemporary mottled calf. Very Good. 8vo (17.0 x 10.5 cm). Contemporary French binding in mottled calf; beige leather label in upper panel, remaining panels with double line gilt border enclosing floral design. Collation: and [4] -434, 1-195, [1-blank], [21- Table of Contents and Alphabetical Table of Diseases A-D], [3-blank] pp.+ Engraved plate bound to verso of marble ffep; Mlle Reyne D'Issurtitte - [25-] pp. A prescription recipe written on a piece of paper has been glued to the rear end paper.The engraved frontispiece is from a medical book dated 1621. There is loss to upper right corner and center of the engraving is cut out. The upper portion of the original engraving has been cut in half, eliminating the coat of arms. The missing central region contained the title of the book from which this engraving was removed: DISCOURS De La PHLEBOTOMIE ou est montré en bref les deux temps dicelle Plus UN TRAICTÉ des crifes PAR David de plaris campi chrurgien DEDOOE A la Regne mere du Roy A Paris. There is worming hole near tail at gutter affecting frontispiece and title page.
The manuscript is written in a fine legible hand with clearly marked chapter headings. The sections of the first treatise is divided into three sections, as noted in the title; Physiology, Pathology and Therapeutics. Ganneron provides a detail description of the major organs of the human body and function of each in the first section (pp. 1-64). The second section on Pathology begins with general description and names of different illnesses, then particular illness (nosology) from diseases. (pp. 65-434). The Third Part on Therapy has separate pagination (pp.1-195). Following discussion of different possible regimes one can use in treating diseases or maladies there are separate chapters for different types of treatments whether involving solutions, wine, vapors and so on. The separate section by Mlle Reyne D'Issurtitte provides information on the use of different wine concoctions in treating various maladies. There are numerous recipes with quantities of components to add in preparing the various treatments. This is a rare unpublished manuscript by Ganneron and D'Issurtitt.
