"The manner in which he discharged the duties of this office, it is said 'won the favour and exteem of George III in no ordinary degree,' "(DNB) He was also one of the authors of the Oxford poem in 1751 on the death of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Gould was knighted in 1779, made a baronet in 1792 and then a privy counvillor in 1802.
