1831. Manuscript Letter, 6 January 1831, Twice Signed by Commodore John Rodgers, once at conclusion of letter and again to verso as sender. Also with annotation by the recipient, Commodore William Bainbridge, a red wax seal, and the City of Washington postal stamp 7 January 1831. Also stamped "FREE" as this was obviously official business and the sender or receiver did not have to pay any postage. 8vo. Single-leaf, once folded into integral envelope. Double leaf, measuring approximately 20cm x 25cm. Two binder perforations, otherwise very good condition, content in an exceptionally neat secretarial hand. At the time, Rodgers was head of the Board of Navy Commissioners. This letter was written by his secretary at the Navy Commissioners Office. Rodgers is offering a supply of white oak wood to Bainbridge for resell at the latter's shipyard. During the colonial period white oak was much prized for ship building, for its strong, relatively inflexible, and rot resistant properties. Bainbridge was at the time commandant the Philadelphia Navy Yard. . Signed. Manuscript.

AMuQS, 1p, heavy stock 3½" X 2½" card, n.p., n.y. [1902]. Near fine. Light, even age toning. On a 2½" X 1" slip tipped to the center of this heavy card, Gabrilowitsch neatly writes out three measures of music, identifying it above as "Chopin, Concerto." 1905. Good +. Signed 3-page typescript of a agreement of sale between the American Baptist Publication Society and John Wanamaker. The American Baptist Publication Society sold to John Wanamaker the Crozier Building at 1420 and 1422 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, for $900,000. The Crozier Building was designed by Frank Miles Day & Brother and was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 1980. American merchant John Wanamaker (1838-1922) had made $1.5 million in profits and interest from his stores in Philadelphia and New York in 1904, suggesting that his acquisition of the Crozier Building was an investment. The Crozier Building has continued to function as a successful office building to this day. In Good+ Condition: chipping at edges; loss of lower corner of first page, with minor loss of text; separating along some of the 2 horizontal creases in each page; signatures are clean and intact.
