About This Item

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1943. First. hardcover. near fine/near fine. Illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. Thin 4to, light red cloth, d.w.. N.Y.: Harcourt Brace, (1943). First Edition.

Thurber's first book for children and winner of the 1944 Caldecott Medal. The dust wrapper has a small chip at the top of the spine, a closed tear on the front panel, and is price-clipped. Someone has written 50cents in light red crayon on the illustrated end-paper which almost looks like part of the colored illustration. Altogether a very lovely book.

Synopsis

Many Moons is a children's picture book written by James Thurber and illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. It was published by Harcourt, Brace & Company in 1943 and won the Caldecott Medal in 1944. Princess Lenore becomes ill, and only one thing will make her better: the moon. Unlike much of Thurber's other work, including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and his fables, this story shows a crisis between males and females that ends happily for all.
