S. Augustus Mitchell. Map of the state of New York. Compiled from the latest authorities. Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell. 1832. Hand colored map 41 x 54 cm folded to 14 x 9 cm. The red leather covers state "Traveller's (sic) Map Of New-York" and a decorative border in gilt. Covers are worn and missing most of the spine. The map has some fold splits and old tape repairs. Good.
OCLC shows eight holdings (Huntington; Stanford; NY Pub. Lib.; NY St. Lib.; Univ. Rochester; Allen Cty. Pub. Lib. & Winterthur Mus.) A scarce map. Rare Book Hub shows only one copy in their auction and catalog records. Mitchell drops the profile of the Erie Canal that appears on his 1831 edition and adds four inset maps of New York cities. Relief shown pictorially. Insets: Vicinity of the Falls of Niagara, Vicinity of Rochester, Vicinity of Albany, Vicinity of New York, and Map of the Hudson River from New York to Albany. Populations of cities and counties inside cover.
