Upper board inset with an example of marbled paper (varies between copies). No jacket. Tipped-in colour frontispiece of Necmeddin style marbled flower from Turkey. Six illustrations of Suminagashi; illustrations of Elephant & Rider and a Mughal Princess; two pages of patterns (9 patterns per page); Examples of marbled papers tipped in between pages 66 and 67, these include: Beninagashi, Suminagashi, Hatip Ebru and Ebru. Nine colour illustrations (on one page) showing the progressive steps in marbling (by Chris Weimann); illustrations of Continental Currency and a Change Note; a page showing eight examples of patterns in colour; a photograph of a Seventeenth century box with marbled paper lining; a series of photographs showing edge marbling by John Dickinson Stationery. The text of the book is divided as follows: Suminagashi; The Near East; Europe; America; Marbling Past & Present Uses; Resources for the Study of Marbled Papers; A Bibliography of Marbled Papers. A very comprehensive survey. Book near fine. Some very light soiling to upper edge of txt block. Very slight darkening to boards in a narrow vertical band at edges. Internally very clean and bright.
