About This Item
Maria Poveka Martinez was the most famous of the potters of San Ildefonso Pueblo in north central New Mexico. She first exhibited in 1904 at the St Louis World's Fair. There is a lot of information about the history of the area, as well as the progression of Maria's work and that of the other potters in the pueblo. Historical photographs by Laura Gilpin, well known chronicler of New Mexico. There are 60 color and 40 black and white images of her work accompanied by quoted remarks by Maria. The book is in fine condition, the dust jacket is price clipped and has a small tear at the top spine. The book is protected in a mylar cover. First edition, so stated. The subject, Maria Poveka, has signed on the half title page (no inscription).
