About This Item
New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grosset and Dunlap, 1911. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair-Good. Book #5 (of 6) in the author's second bestselling series of children's books from the early 20th-century, designed as "happy books for happy girls,'' written especially for "her majesty the little American girl." These featured a plucky 12-year girl, Marjorie Maynard, who is "up to mischief, but full of goodness & sincerity,'' as she embarks on a new adventure in each book. Here, she is kidnapped by Gypsies & visits the circus. Orig. published in 1911, this is a later printing with decorative rather than plain endpapers in the second state full color DJ depicting Marjorie standing by a fence post. Bound in bright orange blue cloth with inset center image to front & black lettering to front & spine, this hardcover 8vo has 241 pages with ads for other series in rear + a glossy frontispiece (author unattributed). Condition is VG: quite bright & clean, binding strong & straight, hinges intact, pages creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning to edges, but unmarked save for former owner's name in pen to ffep. The unclipped DJ is just Fair-Good: colorful with some chipping & rubbing to extremities, front flap torn; nicely protected in clear mylar cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific tie); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
