Illustrated dustwrapper with white and dark brown coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The 11th of the Jalna novels, telling the story of the Whiteoaks family. Softening and rubbing to the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners, top edges and rubbing of the lower book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with life foxing of the stop offset tanning and foxing to the end pages with original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Previous owners details have been scrubbed out, leaving a rather nasty erosion mark, to the top left-hand corner of the same panel. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges with a couple of tears to the top and edges of the front panel. There is a 2 inch tear to the lower left-hand corner of the front panel rubbing and fading of the dustwrapper panels with sunning of the back strip. Foxing can be seen to back panel, fold over panels and to the verso. There is a rubber stamp to the lower edge of the rear panel stating "Macmillan's Overseas Library: this Light been must not be circulated in the British Isles, the United States of America or Canada".
