Folio. 18pp, illustrated, frontispiece. Stapled wraps printed in green ink on brown paper and featuring a portrait of an unnamed worker by Anton Otto Fischer. Frontispiece features "The Destroyer" by Charles A. Winter. The Masses was an important and inflential radical magazine that was published in Greenwich Village from 1911 to 1917 when it was forced to shut down after a lengthy showdown with the government in which they stood trial accused of trying to "unlawfully and willfully…obstruct the recruiting and enlistment of the United States [military]". Includes contributions by Horatio Winslow, Emanuel Julius, Piet Vlag, Jane Burr, Josephine Conger, George Allan England, and Vera Lynn. Illustrators include Robert Robinson, Alexander Popini, Maurice Becker, Layton Smith, H.J. Turner and Anton Otto Fischer. Hinge reinforced with tape, damp staining along hinge, affecting front wrap and first several pages of text, chipping and creasing to edges, lengthwise creasing. About Good.
