New York: Worthington Co. Book. Fair. Hardcover. 1889, 12mo, 224pp. Extremities moderately worn, previous owner's pencil inscription at front, else G. La Rochefoucault, (Rochefoucauld), (1613-1680), is best remembered as one of the greatest writers of maxims, but he also wrote his Memoires, which was an account of his political career. The principal merit of the Maxims lies in their style which is clear, concise, and polished. The maxims comprise 120 pages and the aphorisms by Shakespeare , organized by play title, take up the rest of the book. .
