This issue notably contains the full text of Kenyan author Ngugi wa Thiong'o's "The Writer and His Past," a lecture he delivered at an African Studies class at MSU. Additional contributions touch on subjects as diverse as Carter G. Woodson, George Padmore, a new definition of African intellectuals, Pan-African political nationalism, and a discussion on African history from a racist perspective.
