The boards have been well protected by the dust jacket and are clean and bright and the binding firm. Internally without name, inscription or bookplate. There is some spotting to the edge of the text block and a little light spotting to the first few and last few pages. The dust jacket which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown) presents very well. There is light dust marking to the rear panel and a 1cm chip on the top corner of the front panel. There are also three small tears on the rear panel varying between 0.5 and 1.2 cm. A lovely book. Translated by her husband, the text differs to the original edition and here Rhys's first-person narrative has been changed into a third-person account. Henriëtte Van Eyk would carry out further Dutch translation of Voyage in the Dark, as "Reis door het Duister", in 1969. At that time no-one seems to have noticed that Henriëtte van Eyk's was not, as all reviewers assumed, the first Dutch translation of Voyage in the Dark.
