About This Item
London: Printed for Ben. Griffin, and are to be sold by Sam. Keble..., 1690.. First edition. Small 8vo. (iv), 214, (18) pp. Contemporary full speckled calf, spine with raised bands, some later notes in faint purple pencil to the front free endpaper. Frontispiece portrait plus a folding table. Subtle restoration to the outer edge of leaf K3 with minor loss to the printed side note, another inconspicuous repair to one fold of the table, the joints and spine ends subtly repaired, a dark shadow across the upper board, very good in all other regard. Pepys' only work published during his lifetime, featuring 13 manuscript amendments in the text. There is some conjecture as to whether these were made by Pepys himself but it is more likely that they were done by others at his behest. Wing P1450.
