About This Item

London: Putnam. This is a Very Good Copy of this Book in blue coloured boards with gilt title lettering to spine in a Good Only but rare Dust-Jacket that is chipped to both the head and tail of spine and with further smaller nicks along extremities of the dust-wrapper.Not price clipped with price of 9s net showing to the front flap of the dust-jacket.The book has a Firm binding with no hinge weakness and there are no loose pages. There is some foxing and age toning to the page edges though comensurate with the age of the book. There are 3 illustrations all present. This copy has one previous owner's bookplate present to the front pastedown.Certainly an uncommon title in first edition status and especially so with it's original dust-wrapper present which comes well protected in a cover sleeve.Lockhart was a British diplomat, journalist, author, and secret agent and this book became an international bestseller by telling of his experiences in Russia in 1918 following the Bolshevik Revolution.Lockhart left the country after he was accused of having led a failed plot to assassinate Lenin the so called Ambassador's plot a charge he strenuously denied. Thick 8vo 355pp First Edition 1st Impression [1932] . Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 1st Printing. 1932.
