Illustrator: Illustrated. biographical sketch of Anthony Hamilton by Sir Walter Scott, Epistle to the Count de Grammont by Anthony Hamilton and index of names. Dark brown coloured endpapers. Illustrated frontispiece of Anthony Hamilton. The text is illustrated with reproductions of engravings by C. De Lort. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt embossed family coat of arms to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Gilt to the top textblock edge. The memoirs of a French aristocrat in the court of Charles II. Dealing mostly with amorous adventures. The book is showing its age. Softening, rubbing and slight fraying to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and to the book corners. The lower edge of the front panel and along the front fore book edge. There has been erosion of the cloth and under lying board is visible. Heavy rubbing, flecking, and marks to the book panels, predominantly to the front panel. The pages have been hand cut, but there are some pages that have not yet been separated. Browning of the textblock edges and light age toning to the internal pages. The front hinge has cracked and underlying webbing is visible, the endpapers show rubbing and a few marks. Gift inscription to the page following the free front endpaper, in lead pencil. The illustrations have tissue guards, the first illustrations' tissue guard has been cut away. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. (3), IV-XXXVI, (2), 396, pages,.
