English poet, classicist, writer, translator, linguist, and polymath, Elizabeth Carter was a member of the Bluestocking Circle, best known for the first English translation of "The Discourses of Epictetus". Very Good, bound in contemporary half morocco over marbled boards, gilt spine, light rubbing at edges, moderate toning to end pages associated with frontispiece portrait engraving, else light scattered toning. Contemporary bookplate front paste downs. A SCARCE book, particularly in collectible condition. . Second Edition. Half Morocco. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
