London: T. and W. Boone. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1849. Hardcover. Some fraying and small <5mm loss of cloth at ends of spines and at tips of corners of boards. Some pencil marginalia. Hinges intact. Frontispiece in Volume One with tidemark to margin. Overall a nice set of this uncommon title. ; Two volumes (complete). Volume One is a stated "Second Edition" on the title page. 1849 imprint on both volumes. Volume One: xxiv, 501, [1 (blank)] pages + frontispiece + 4 plate leaves (1 folding) + 1 Notice slip (on the decease of his Lordship the Earl of Auckland, notice dated January 15th, 1849.) Volume Two: [2], 668 pages + frontispiece + 6 plates + 2 folding. Both volumes: Blue cloth boards with gitl and black decoration on spines and front boards. Gilt lettering on spines. Page dimensions: 212 x 135mm. All pages gilt. Most of the plates are facsimiles of handwritten letters. There are also some in-text illustrations of autographs. Page xxxiv of Volume One has "Errata and Additions". The Notice in Volume One begins: "Since the completion of the printing of this work, the country has been unhappily deprived of the services of the Earl of Auckland, First Lord of the Admiralty, to whom these pages are inscribed, not only with his sanction, but with the expression of the gratification he should feel in having his name connected with that of one of England's greatest Naval Heroes." Volume Two has a folding plate: "Engraving of the Danish Line of defence at Copenhagen". .
