[iv]+x+540(last colophon)+vi+492+vi+596, 10 engraved plates (9 portraits and a battle plan, most with tissue guards), full page plan of Marston village, title pages printed in red & black, blue patterned endpapers, appendices, alphabetical list of writers, chronological catalogue of letters, abstract of correspondence, list of editions of principal works, indices; tall demy 8vo; red cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt & blind, rebacked with later red leather spines lettered and ruled in gilt, the boards slightly soiled, edges lightly worn; endpapers chipped and/or torn, fore-corner of a few leaves slightly creased, a few small edge chips or splits, some foxing (including plates); Richard Bentley, London, 1849. First edition. *The Ingleton copy, with the bookplate of G. & N. Ingleton on upper pastedowns, and their green stamped Catalogue number on lower free endpapers. With a later [unidentified] bookplate on upper free endpapers above the book label of David Levine, Sydney.
