London: John Murray, 1930. [Autobiography] Second Edition, being the FIRST MURRAY PRINTING in the PRIMARY BINDING, revised and enlarged. Octavo (18 x 12cm), pp.460; [4] advertisements. Publisher's navy blue gilt-titled cloth covers ruled in blind, pale blue-green dust-jacket priced at 7/6. Colour-printed advertising brochure for 'The Edge of The Unknown' loosely inserted. Discreet ink-stamped name and date to flyleaf, gilt a touch dulled else a crisp, fine copy in near fine, lightly marked jacket. A most uncommon survival. First issued by Hodder in 1924, this is the first printing from Doyle's regular publisher John Murray, released on 29 July 1930 in an edition of 1599 copies. Covers of copies bound after publication are ruled and titled in white. This edition contains some revisions by the author, with a new preface. Memories and Adventures is a fascinating autobiographical account of Conan Doyle's life, and also contains the "The Adventure of The Two Collaborators" a Sherlock Holmes pastiche created by Doyle's friend and fellow Scottish author J. M. Barrie, describing Holmes' death at a a time when Doyle was feeling increasingly put upon by the success of his creation. Green and Gibson B34c.
