London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington., 1876-1883. Quarto (27 X 22 cm.) 7 volumes. Bound in the original heavy gilt green cloth. Title in gilt on spine and front board. Boards show very little wear. Top edge gilt. 254 mounted woodbury type photograph portraits mounted. An occasional bit of browning. Binding is gutta percha and all of the contents have been reinserted with modern adhesive. A fantastic set, bright, clean and very attractive. Rare in this condition and complete. The set includes images of the Victorian greats of the day, along with brief biographies. Including: Tennyson, Henry Irving, Bedford Pim, Richard Burton, The Prince of Wales, Walpole, Frederick Leighton, Airy, Collinson, Jules Verne, Dore, Trollope, McClintock, Darwin, Gladstone, Huxley, Wilkie Collins, Hooker and Browning. A wonderful production. 1876

A collection of portrait photographs of prominent men in government, science, and the arts. Subjects include Robert Browning, John Everett Millais, Frederick Leighton, Victor Hugo, the Marquis of Salisbury, Jules Verne, Gustave Dore, and many more. Very Good plus, with light wear to the corners and spines, but contents for the most part unaffected.
