Pub. in U.S. by Scribner's, UK editions apparently simultaneous with these. f/piece with tissue guard (impression of Neanderthal man)+xxviii+559+unf.map, 7 further plates, 2 col., ex-pagination, 275 text ills.; prev.owner's gilt label top fr. pastedown, pencil sig. to half-title which resists easy erasure, thin gutter opening between half-title and f/piece, otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked; covers clean but all extremeties a little rubbed including joints, small indentation to spine, main general issue though is that textblock is all slightly shaken. A heavy and comprehensive overview of the state of knowledge at time of publication, including plate of Piltdown Man.
