Dustwrapper somewhat sunned and edgeworn, with loss to head of spine panel and small pen notation to lower flap; trace of spotting to edges. Very good condition. Afrikaans text. 'Gelyktydig met Een-en-twintig skryf Rabie in die vyftigerjare ook die roman Mens-alleen, wat egter eers in 1963 gepubliseer word. Die roman handel oor die lotgevalle van Lukas Alwyn wat na 'n veroordeling op geheimsinnige wyse losgelaat word, deur die stad dwaal, by 'n ondergrondse versetbeweging aansluit, 'n dooie man se plek en identiteit oorneem, op dié se vrou verlief raak en aan die einde sy volle verantwoordelikheid as mens aanvaar as hy haar kind deur die strate lei. Die "aktuele" agtergrond word opsetlik vaag gehou en die hoofaksent val op die angs en stryd van Lukas Alwyn teen verskillende bomenslike magte wat hom in 'n wêreld van gevoelloosheid en afgryse omring. Sy verhouding met die gestorwe man se vrou ontwikkel van 'n aarselende toenadering tot 'n diep en omvattende liefde wat as iets suiwers teen die omringende verskrikking en ellende staan.' - JC Kannemeyer: Die Afrikaanse Literatuur 1652-1987 .
