Her minor field of study, and long time interest, was the fine arts, including particularly drawing, painting and sculpture, During the late 60's, she relocated to Boston while her husband attended Harvard Universily, She spent her days in the area's many fine museums sketching and studying the works of the masters represented there. Extensive reading about the lives and work of major artists lent the discipline of formal education to her museum studies then and in later years. Moving to Los Angeles, Ms, Lasarte attended UCLA and Otis/Parsons Art School. While at these schools she continued to polish her skills as a painter and sculptor while absorbing the techniques of the masters. Being based here has granted her the foundation from which to learn and seek out other collections throughout the world…Her paintings reflect her favorite post-impressionist artists with her own techniques and individuality. As her style defines form and space with strong, bright colors, it produces uniquely serious pieces which are pleasing and decorative. Mercedes Lasartes’ works are in collections on four continents that include the very maters she had always emulated.
