Merck's Index (Signed) by E. Merck - 1889

Darmstadt, Germany: E. Merck, 1889. This appears to be Emanuel Merck's personal copy of the First American Edition of the Merck's Index. On the page prior to title page it reads: "To E. Merck, Darmstadt, Germany with the Compliments of the Author. E. Merck New York, March 1st, 1889." The writing and both signatures are in black ink . The Index is larger that the one offered to the public. It is in marrooned stippled leather covers with stamped gilt name of E. Merck and Darmstadt on the front cover and gilt stamped Merck's Index and 1889 on spine. There are marbled endpapers. Page edges are red stained. Square and intact binding. Clean and unmarked endpapers and text pages. The covers are moderately rubbed on the edges, as is the spine. There is some sunning on the upper third of the front cover. Photos upon request. .
