First line

On June 29, 1938, approximately half the final length of Connecticut's Merritt Parkway - seventeen and a half miles of gleaming white concrete - was officially opened by a motorcade of some forty cars with Governor Wilbur Cross and the aged former congressman Schuyler Merritt, for whom it was named, heading the procession.

From the rear cover

This book traces the history of Connecticut's Merritt Parkway from the proposals for its construction and design in the early 1920's to its triumphant completion in 1940.
