Washington DC: James B. Steedman, Printer, 1858. Hardcover. Good. Octavo, 9.1 in. x 6 in., pp. 670. Brown cloth boards wiht elborate frame stamped in blind to front and back. Gilt title to spine which reads: "Message and Documents, 1858-59, Part 2." "House Document" and emblem stamped in blind to spine. Rubbing to extremities, particularly along front gutter; corners bumped. 3/4 in. x 1/2 in. white sticker to front free endpaper. LIght age-toning to pages. This volume contains the Report of the Secretary of War, John B. Floyd, December 6, 1858. The Persident in 1858 was James Buchanan.

Includes 200 pages on issues realted to the Utah (Mormon) War: The Utah War (1857-1858), also known as the Utah Expedition, the Utah Campaign, Buchanan's Blunder, the Mormon War] or the Mormon Rebellion, was an armed confrontation between Mormon settlers in the Utah Territory and the armed forces of the US government. The confrontation lasted from May 1857 to July 1858. There were some casualties, most of which were non-Mormon civilians. While the war had no notable military battles, Mormons did perpetrate the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 120 unarmed settlers who were passing through towards California.
