About This Item
London: The Readers Library Publishing Company, 1927. First English Edition; first state (or printing?) with no mention of this title in the ads. Pages considerably browned and brittle; hinges cracked; minor staining; good in a good dust jacket (also a first state or printing, with no mention of this title on the flap). Inscribed by the director (at the time of this publication, he was Von Harbou’s husband), clearly signing at a later decade in red ink on the title page, “For Phill [?] Fritz Lang.” In a custom quarter-morocco clamshell box. The jacket is illustrated with a wraparound color painting by Aubrey Hammond of the robot and futuristic scenery. The “Editor’s Note” promotes the movie version (the film company and the English distributor’s logos “UFA” and “Wardour” are on the front jacket panel) of this novel.
