Arthur Conan Doyle's historical novel 'Micah Clarke: His Statement, as made to his Three Grandchildren Joseph, Gervas, and Reuben during the Hard Winter of 1734.' A New edition. Originally published in 1899.Set during the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685, the novel consists of a bildungsroman following Micah Clarke and his way through life from a young boy to an adult, enduring many harrowing experiences, eventually becoming a soldier of fortune and sent into exile. A fascinating book, giving an insight from the point of view of a seventeenth century English boy, as he witnesses life through the rebellion. The novel is highly focused on the religious aspects of the conflict. With twenty-four leaves of advertisements to the rear. Illustrated with a frontispiece and vignette to title page. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with light bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities, gentle cocking forward of the spine. Previous ownership inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1918. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to occasional leaf. Very Good
