The author commences with "General observations on the game of Chess", examining the elements in terms of space, time and force. Part two is devoted to the middle-game, including evaluation of positions, construction and execution of plans, and analysis of the tree groups of positions, superior, inferior and equal. Part three contains twenty "examples, illustrating, "maneuvers, "attack", "Defense" and "the counter-battle". Includes 100 game positions in all.

Page ends soiled, occasional pencil marginalia. Jacket spine age darkened else a very good copy in like jacket.
