About This Item

London: The Folio Society, 2008. Limited Edition . Half Leather. As New. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. The Folio Society's limited letterpress edition of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. In mint condition as received directly from the publisher, having been carefully stored in the original protective cardboard packaging. Limited to 3750 hand-numbered copies, this being #1201. Bound by hand at Real Lachenmaier in half green goatskin leather, blocked in gold to spine, with marbled paper boards by Jemma Lewis and top edge gilding. Dark green endleaves. Ribbon marker. Set in 16pt 'Monotype' Baskerville, printed by letterpress on Zerkall mould-made paper. Oxford University Press text under the General Editor Stanley Wells. Presented together with a commentary volume, bound in matching green buckram blocked in gold to spine, with a paper title label to upper board. The commentary includes the text of the play with full explanatory notes. Both books are housed in a green buckram-bound solander box with leather spine-label titled in gold. The solander box measures 15" x 11" x 2¾"; the letterpress volume: 14" x 10¾", and the commentary volume: 8¾" x 5¾". The text, commentary and solander box are all in mint condition, having been opened only twice: firstly to check condition upon receipt and secondly to take photographs for this listing. I handle new books as little as possible in order to preserve their condition so while photographs are limited, books are guaranteed to be in genuinely mint condition. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Heavy/oversize. U.K. postage at default rate but international buyers will be asked for extra. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed for, and fully insured.

Synopsis

"I feel that I have spent half my career with one or another Pelican Shakespeare in my back pocket. Convenience, however, is the least important aspect of the new Pelican Shakespeare series. Here is an elegant and clear text for either the study or the rehearsal room, notes where you need them and the distinguished scholarship of the general editors, Stephen Orgel and A. R. Braunmuller who understand that these are plays for performance as well as great texts for contemplation." (Patrick Stewart) The distinguished Pelican Shakespeare series, which has sold more than four million copies, is now completely revised and repackaged. Each volume features: * Authoritative, reliable texts * High quality introductions and notes * New, more readable trade trim size * An essay on the theatrical world of Shakespeare and essays on Shakespeare's life and the selection of texts
