Author Jessie Fenton tells the fictionalized story of Lonny, a teenage boy gone bad, from his petty thievery in his hometown to his hopping a freight train and befriending a man who teaches him to pass bogus check and steal cars within hours of their meeting. Lonny ends up in reform school, becomes a hardened criminal and kills a man during a bank robbery. He dies in the electric chair at Sing Sing. We find the book has some of that classic film noir vibe. Dusty top, light wear or soil to cover and spine; some fingermarks on cover. From his upbringing amidst the Anglo-Catholic Oxford Movement, Froude intended to become a clergyman, but doubts about the doctrines of the Anglican church, published in his scandalous 1849 novel The Nemesis of Faith, drove him to abandon his religious career. He features in stories set at Greyfriars School, originally published in the boys' weekly story paper The Magnet from 1908 to 1940. The character has appeared in novels, on television, in stage plays, and in comic strips. He is in the Lower Fourth form of Greyfriars School, known as the Remove, whose members are 14–15 years of age.
