About This Item
New York: The Vanguard Press, 1939. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Orange cloth with black lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 309pp. Fine/near fine. Outstanding, bright and tight first edition of this sequel to Clarke's 1930 bestseller "Millie." This earlier title was filmed in 1931 and a film version of "Millie's Daughter" was released in 1947 -- and in 1956 the television anthology series "Lux Video Theatre" featured a new version in an episode starring June Havoc as Millie. This copy features a choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a fine, heavy stock 5" X 5" card signed large and bold by Havoc in blue fineline, dated by her "28 May 1989" at upper right. Havoc (1912-2010) was a popular and prolific actress and dancer who appeared in films, stage, radio and television and vaudeville from the 1920s through the 1990s. Laid in is the ideal bookmark: Havoc's original signature transmittal envelope. A superb, unusual copy with killer dust jacket.
